MG Windsor EV: A Real Electric SUV with Space and Modern Touch MG Windsor EV indeed becomes the latest entrant in India’s electric vehicle market which the buyers in the country are seeking more than just range — space, features, and peace of mind.
Billed as a family-friendly electric SUV, the Windsor combines good looks with generous interior space and a great price point — particularly with MG’s innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) offer. However, like any modern EV, it has its compromises.
Design and Comfort
The Windsor EV is a modern but functional design on the outside.
With all open and clear front of vehicle, modern pure LED light and low sleek aerodynamic look, it appears modern and contemporary.
MG has well anticipated who will be drawn to this EV: urban couples and families in search of a future-facing, yet understated, vehicle.
And the interior is a standout, one of the W’s strongest points. The cabin feels spacious, aided by a large panoramic sunroof and expansive windows.
Space wise is where the Windsor really comes into its own, rear passengers receive lots of leg room and reclining rear seats offering more comfort,
with the boot providing a colossal 600+ litres worth of room—perfect for families.
The dashboard design is modern, with a 15-inch touchscreen at the centre of everything. Another nod to the future is the digital instrument cluster and wireless smartphone connectivity.
But all is not well. Some owners and reviewers have complained about the many simple functions — say, the movement of the side mirrors or the lights,
that are now hidden inside the screen, a possible distraction while driving. The presence of hard plastics on certain parts of the cabin slightly blunts its air of premiumness.
Performance and Range
Windsor EV is available with two battery options – a 38 kWh and a 52.9 kWh battery.
The bigger battery offers an official test cycle range of up to 450 km, though in reality, you’re looking at between 250-300 km depending on ,
how you drive it and the CallMyCab button pressed for air conditioning.
Acceleration is nice and responsive, with about 136 horsepower on tap, especially in city driving, where the engine brings its electric torque to bear immediately.
The Windsor isn’t pretending to be a performance SUV, but it feels confident around town and capable on the open road.
The ride quality is largely comfortable, but big potholes and broken roads can crash through the cabin, particularly at the rear.
Charging and Ownership
Fast charging is a strong point, able to move from 20% to 80% in less than an hour when visiting a DC fast charge station.
You can also prepare for a full top-up to take between 7 and 10 hours if charging at home, depending on your configuration.
Of particular interest is MG’s BaaS approach. Buyers can also opt to just pay for the car upfront, and rent the battery separately, bringing down the initial cost considerably.
This adaptable ownership option may suit budget-conscious buyers, but also monthly rental costs that can mount over the years.
Safety and Features
In terms of safety, the Windsor comes with six airbags, electronic stability control and hill-hold assist, and a 360-degree camera.
There’s also Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) in high models too which includes lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control.
Pros:
Impressive cabin space and a large boot make it a great family car.
BaaS Model is flexible to reduced upfront cost
Current tech: big touchscreen, connected car tech, ADAS
Fair city driving range and quick charging ratio
Silky, seamless electric propulsion
Cons:
Charges to less than what has been claimed and advertised, especially on the highway
Ride might be stiff over bumps
Far too many of the fundamentals were squished onto the touchscreen, drawing our eyes away from the road.
Materials used in the cabin can feel on the cheaper side at this price range
Battery rental expense over the years could add up.
MG Windsor EV: Final Word
The MG Windsor EV checks plenty of boxes when it comes to an urban family EV. It whittles space, practicality,
and a tech-forward cabin down to a price point that feels reachable—especially with the option of owning the battery yourself.
But potential buyers should carefully measure the range, the ride comfort and long-term costs before they commit.
For the vast majority of urban residents, the Windsor EV is a smart, well-balanced option in the increasingly crowded electric SUV category.
